about

A response to the entire 2011 Juno Awards situation from the eyes, heart and mind of someone who witnessed the whole fiasco unfold at the Air Canada Center from start to finish (as well as being a part of the bittersweet Drake afterparty at Muzik, where a thousand+ people silently wondered "Are we really all here in this beautiful club, celebrating a year where Drake DIDN'T win ANY Juno awards for 'Thank Me Later'? What the fuck happened to reality?!")

Well, this song was inspired by the same madness that happens time and time again, no matter how much optimism and positive energy I try to create for Toronto, Canada and the world. Realize that Canadian hip hop isn't always "Canadian". We CAN'T always be polite and humble and non-offensive anymore, it doesn't matter to some people what we do: they still ignore us (you know which media outlets are guilty as charged). And I don't even believe I have ruined any potential future business opportunities by telling the raw truth of the Juno Award's manipulation of hip hop culture in these rhymes, since I believe the state of affairs is so dire, that almost anybody offended by these lyrics wouldn't have supported Mindbender hip hop anyways. If they don't recognize ~DRAKE~, the second biggest rapper on the planet in 2010 after Eminem, why would I think they care about my art or what I have to say?

Nevertheless, I hope to bring an enlightening impact to those responsible for what I perceive to be an inexcusable display of disrespect to Canadian hip hop culture and music, especially considering the unprecedented history that has happened in recent years. We have truly come of age, and the saying "Hip Hop ain't dead, it lives in the North!" resonates with more four-element evidence than ever before. So, I thank YOU for listening close, or even listneing once. Thank you to everyone who decides to share this with others who they think need to hear it. Spread it. Link it. Blog it. Discuss it. Debate it. Hate it. Love it. Learn from it. And special thanks if you listen to it again, I put meaning and thought and heart into every line, and sometimes I don't feel that enough modern hip hop music tries to do that. Thanks to everyone trying to be part of the solution, and doing what is in their power to do every day to help eliminate the problems. We all have something to say and do and create.

Peace, truth and justice above all. And one love to Drake for going thru this bullshit while keeping your dignity and honor intact. That's more than can be said for some people in Canada... and peace to the Rascalz while we're at it. The more things change, the more the stay the same, apparently. And if you don't know the past, you can't be the future. I know where all this shit comes from, and I shall be a leader of the new school that helps guide where it's going, because we obviously can't count on some people in the Canadian music industry and the Toronto arts community to help elevate hip hop culture to the heavenly heights it could go... so it's on us. That's fine with me, I was born to give my passion to music, and that's the tradition I will carry on, by any means necessary.

Not a single word on this song is made of hate.
It's just my love... set on fire.
Sincerely yours truly,
Adhimu "Mindbender" Stewart

LOOK.

Kardinal is right. That shit was utterly disrespectful
How much history is enough to be considered successful?

Even Cam’ron would say: “that shit is disgusting, B”
How Drake got robbed again, this time it was uncomfortably broadcast on TV publicly
I still can’t understand the illogical insanity of how we haven’t seen him give a ‘Thank Me Later’ Grammy speech
I don’t care what galaxy you’re from, you probably done heard a song by Aubrey
The way he dominated foreign nations, haters thought he was a Commie bastard… hardly.
Just a sharp adapter to the modern standard of artist, rapper, vocalist, actor, and business brokering force across the planet
A smart example to watch, top candidate for a glamorous spot
But don’t take it for granted Drake won’t be treated like an amateur flop
For making Canada’s first rap album to go platinum in America
In the Big Apple, in store appearances caused mass hysteria!
Flex dropping bombs like the airplanes that Quaddafi wants
While constant airplay stays killing innocent eyes and ears… no Syria
Seriously, it was a whole new low to use dude as the host of the 40th anniversary show… yo:
It’s a fucking abomination.
Six nominations and no Juno? It’s shit like this that makes me lose hope in ever seeing the truth known to all
Your exoneration may come when y’all stop the dishonest blatant daily operations conducted by a hypocrisy-filled fraudulent song singing congregation
Your modern day Vaudeville conversation? Drowned and censored
Flush washed-up rock stars and piss on dictionaries, cause I ain’t Down With Webster
Drake still did a great job as master of ceremonies
Put a brave face on to celebrate an industry where half its captains are very phony
And generally, I’d stay silent, keep my informed opinion private
But the next great Canadian MC won’t break the ceiling of shame until a giant USA MC co-signs him
So fuck it! I’ma forge the signature of Nasir Jones, why not? Since 1994, it ain’t hard to tell, I been a hip hop superhero
Even before The Rascalz rejected their untelevised award
We beg for nothing, but you best respect our shining souls or feel the fire of the lion’s roar
Listen:
Shad winning is a GOOD look, word em up!
Peace to D-Sisive, Muneshine, and Eternia
But concerning the exploitation of Drake and hip hop?
FUCK YOU JUSTICE MURDERERS.
Mindbender’s here so you learn the truth:
KARMA IS CIRCULAR AND LOVE IS VERTICAL
Thus, I’m in space like a Black Alien
I had to leave after the Juno show, I NEVER felt so disgraced to be Canadian
Well… Drizzy’s been busy, and Mindbender has the power to create air
It’s far from over….

Peace for now…

Oh, and don’t forget:
TAKE CARE.
…AND GIVE LOVE.
